Search engines have more responsibility towards the users than merely to help them in searching for particular information. Along with this basic duty, they should ensure that users are protected from spam and phishing by acting as a police in the internet.
Yahoo has successfully tried to grow up to the expectations of their users, that search engines will protect them from abuses. The robot programs of Yahoo involve actions to identify emails, chat rooms and other websites where improper activities are taking place.
The robot programs are supposed to interact with people in chat rooms and through instant messaging, to find out the phishing activities involving password hacking and stealing of confidential information.
The actions of the robot programs can be either active or passive. Through such actions, they come up with the addresses or URLs of sources of such abusive communications.
The robot will sign into the web pages. They look into the chat rooms and other news letters and start conversations and respond to emails. Through these actions, they pro-actively take part in the steps to locate spasm and other phishing works.
Once the source is identified, Yahoo will try to stop such actions by warning the sender or filtering such sites or disabling the accounts of such senders.
