Digg

Ok so today I logged into my digg profile to see that there is a story with other 10K votes an amazing feat for any story of any nature. Although I have before slated digg in previous posts for the way the site is run, you can absolutley see the potential power of a strong story. I guess with about 10k diggs that site in question must of got a heck of alot of traffic with alot of subscribers and it generated alot of buzz as its all over the internet. Whether or not the story is true it just goes to show anyone using digg can see why it is labelled the top social site around these days

As you can see from the title I feel this story in question has broken the digg record with the most votes. There maybe another few that have like 20 – 30k votes but this is the only one that caught mine and a global attention. So if you have do let us know the URL if you think there are more that has the power of this story. Finally id just like to congratulate the submitter of the story and digg for achieving such a great feat. I say bring on the 20k with a killer story! :-)

P.S If you know any other storys that have achieved this feat do let us know

The Twitter Experiment

Twitter Stats

Lately I have been experimenting with Twitter as there is alot of buzz surrounding the social site, so I decided to do an experiment just to see how much traffic twitter can deliver and is it worth it? Well I decided to do this experiment on this current blog for 1 month this was between April 14th 08 – May 14th 08. As you can see from the stats above twitter had been sending around 120 uniques a day which is ok. I have been carefully tracking these visitors and although I cant track how many people are personally bookmarking the site I can track my subscribers. So since I started this I have got a few extra subscribers than normal daily. But if you take a look at the bounce rate from twitter it is extrodinarily high with alot of people staying on the blog for less than 1 min. Therefore from this experiment I have learnt that although twitter has the potential to send alot of traffic how much of this is actually worth it? Ok it may be because of the fact that most people on twitter dont know what SEO is and I may have been targetting the wrong audience but I feel for most online businesses or blogs looking to bring in targetted traffic twitter is not the way to go.

Feel free to leave comments of your twitter traffic and if it has been succesful to your niche. One great thing about twitter though is the communications you can have with people and you can learn alot and obtain a lot of knowledge so just participating and speaking to a wide variety of people can give you a great headstart.

Search Engine Marketing Techniques for Beginners

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

In an Internet savvy world, acronyms have taken the place of the written word in many cases. As a webmaster you understand the language of acronyms that many may not. But do you fully understand SEO, SEM and SMO and their effects on your Web site’s traffic? A successful webmaster knows and understands the importance of META tags in the header section of their Web site’s html. This area is where browsers and search engines look for the key words that are used to index and rank your Web site on search engines. Properly used META tags and keywords can mean the difference between effectively or poorly indexed Web sites.

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the utilization of precise keywords configured on your Web site in such a way that they will be easily found, read and indexed by search engines in a manner that will drive traffic to your Web site. The key words used in your META tag should be used appropriately in the text on your Web site. If you are unfamiliar with indexing and ranking, you may consider hiring a professional to write content for you. Individual pages of your Web site must target key words and phrases in order to be indexed and ranked properly.

SEM, or search engine marketing, includes researching, submitting and marketing the Web site to achieve maximum exposure and traffic. SEM usually includes banner ads, link building campaigns, affiliate programs and article marketing. Well-planned and well-placed banner ads will help draw attention to your Web site. Affiliate programs also can be very beneficial for all parties involved. Link building is the act of placing links to your Web site in strategic places on forums, blogs and other related Web sites.

SMO, or social media optimization, is a set of methods used for generating traffic through social and community Web sites. The utilization of social networking sites such as MySpace, YouTube, Yuwie and others could give you the edge you need. With hundreds of thousands of visitors per day to some social networking sites, your Web site could get a very large boost in traffic if properly optimized.

If your site is not performing as well as you had expected, maybe you need to work on your SEO, SEM or SMO. You may do the work yourself or hire professionals to do it for you.

SEO might be better achieved by someone who is familiar with HTML, PHP and writing content for Web sites. SEM could be the trickier. How many keywords should you have on your Web site? What would be considered SPAM? If you copy someone else’s work could you get in trouble for plagiarism or be penalized by search engines? Can you write appropriate content to draw traffic to your site? If you aren’t 100 percent sure you can provide what your Web site needs, it is highly recommended that you hire someone. Many small writing businesses and freelance professionals have emerged over the last few years. Hiring someone to write for you could be the best move you could make. Some writers and businesses will include search engine or article submission with their price. Shop around until you find the best deal to suit your needs.

SMO is the newest of optimization opportunities, but is quite possibly the best for burst traffic. As social networks take off, potential for free advertising soars along with it. Social networks have become a virtual necessity for webmasters around the Web. SMO is potentially the easiest form of marketing, simply because all that is required of you is to join a wide variety of friends’ lists and comment on friends’ blogs from time to time. The more active you are in the social networks, the more links there will be to your Web site. The more links you establish, the greater the potential for visitors to view your site and take advantage of your product or service.

About Me Page

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Ok guys since launching the blog I havent really had time to tell everyone about myself so now I have built up enough readers and a following base I would like to let you know abit.

Well my name is Musa Aykac and I am 22 years of age at the time of writing this.  – I have a partner and a s n and I live in the South East of the UK.

I have been into the Internet from aslong as I can remember, the moment I realised I loved Internet Marketing was when I was about 14, although it sounds abit pathetic now do you remember the old MSN chat? where you used to create your own rooms I was always obsessed with driving traffic to any of them that I opened and remember always being one of the busiest. Well since then although I dont use chat rooms etc any more I still have a passion for driving traffic but now to sites, via Google and all other major search engines, that is initially how my Internet Marketing career started. I feel if you are passionate about something you should always picture where you want to be in a few years and try your best to achieve that no matter what obstacles are in your way.

Now about me abit now, I am a certified SEO professional and currently work for one of the UKs top SEO companies “Freshegg” as an SEO Engineer. I launched this blog to help up and coming SEO professionals to learn abit more as I feel the internet should be a place to nurture and welcome any new online marketers, one tip I give to anyone new is try anything once so you learn by your mistakes, heck thats what I did marketing is all about trial and error and finding new things that can work for you - so for example if you try putting hundreds of doorway pages to your site you will get banned but its a learning process and you will know not to do it again.

Well Seotops has grown leaps and bounds although we havent been around too long I feel trust has been built with our current readers as it should be. Currently I myself am a regular poster aswell as Mary who is a top moderator on the digitalpoint forums and Opheli who is a top participator.

Well thats about it – If you would like to contact me at any time you can just email me at admin and this domain.

Social Media Sites Equals Time Well Spent

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

So many webmasters spend their time working the social media angle.  It must be doing something for them.  I know from my own experience that most Stumblers and people who Digg are just completely blind to ads that are on a website.  So why do we keep doing it?

The Links
HELLO

Yes social media sites can be an important part of link building.
Social Media Optimization is what it’s called.  You can read a good post about the differences in SMO and SEO Search Engine Optimization here:  Search Engine Optimization VS Social Media Optimization

I know many webmasters who simply use social media sites to find relevant articles and sites that are popular to leave their own website link at. Wordpress blogs are great for commenting on if it’s relevant to your niche. Sometimes, it’s simply a Digg comment page that is relevant to your site, it’s even a better bonus if the page is older and has some Page Rank to it.

Tell me what you think about it!  I’d love to get some perspective of others into why they are using the Social Media Optimization method of getting visitors.
