Two queries to link sponsors by Google

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

A recent patent application from Google describes the way they make use of previous query for influencing the advertisements that pop up during a search.

The patent describes the ways in which the search engine decides the relation between a current and previous query. This is used to determine whether they should encourage ads that support both queries.

The patent clearly describes the way they expand the search query for matching with various advertising keywords. This happens when there is no previous query from the searcher. In such a case, the search engine will look for related words and will perform query broadening.

Ads are shown mostly based on the words which relates to the particular query. This is obtained through getting information through clustering tools and various other systems.

This patent describes how search results could be expanded through a web search. This indicates the instance during which there are no results for any query entered by the user. Google will also look at various overlapping words in those queries which happened during the search, for displaying results to users. Previous queries in this way will relate to the sponsored links which are highlighted on the top of the pages which are shown as results.

A recent search expansion from Google

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Google always take special effort to bring something new for their users. One of the recent expansions they made to their search process is the introduction of scanned documents. They have declared that, Google will be including scanned documents in their search results.

This new innovation from the giants requires advanced technology, processing and image recognition technology. The main difference between the standard text documents and these scanned files will be the absence of text data indexed by Google’s spiders.

Google is trying to make use of OCR technology, which will convert word photos into digital text files. In the past, Google used only the titles and related metadata of documents, when a search was performed. This reduced the relevance of information, with respect to the query word, as displayed to the users. In the latest method, Google will be looking for the text included within the images scanned. This will increase the performance of the search engine and the quality of the results displayed to the users.

When users get the scanned document in their search result, they will be able to view it in its original form, which could be a PDF format or a converted text file.

Search engine going to give related information on queries

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Search engines are trying to introduce more information about a particular keyword query. Along with displaying results connected to a particular keyword, the search engine will also display information about people, places and other things related to that word.

When searching for a song for instance, the search engine will also display information about the singer, the album etc. in such a query, information about the entry will be displayed and the search engine will take all phrases and will look for more information about that word. Different rules will be mixed to provide such detailed information. Thus, even if the information is not directly related to the word, but can be of interest to the query, it will also be given as a part of this search.

A metadata of the name entity will also be used to provide details regarding the name entry you have given for a search. The search will be concentrated on relevant key terms as well as phrases associated with a query word.

This will make a search engine query more informative as well as interesting to the searcher. From the perspective of the search engine, this will be a chance for them to develop their customer base as well.

Why categories?

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

When you use a word to query for some results, it will be difficult for the search engine to determine the intention behind making the query. If the word is so small or short to query, the work of the search engine will be even harder. To avoid this, they will use categories. The category label will be attached to the query word and this will make the understanding of the user’s intension easier for the search engine.

The search engines will use the results with the same phrase in their pages. Once these results are obtained, they will return those to the users and will rank them. The ranked results will be displayed to the users. Another option in which the search engines will handle the query is by placing this into a category and will look into all hierarchical categories to get relationships between the related terms.

The higher level of hierarchy will be easier since this will be general and followed by the hierarchy at lower levels. This lower level will have categories that are more specific to the terms used in searching. In this way, when the term is placed into categories, the search engines will be able to determine what all items are connected to the term which you have used for querying which will make the results more relevant.

How search engines handle singular and plural query words

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

You might have used singular and plural versions of the same word for querying in most popular search engines like Yahoo and Google. You might have wondered on whether these are returning the singular results of the plural ones when you give a word for query or whether they are returning back with same options.

Returning results with singular and plural ones can be a little confusing as whether you will get the best results and the results you are looking for. The search engines should well explore both the categories and should bring a mix of the singular and plural results.

The most popular search engines are looking for both singular and plural versions of a word while you query for it.  The results will be different when you give the word in a quotation mark. Hence the exact results and the find all results will be quite different. The search engines like Yahoo had devised methods which will handle both singular and plural words and will try to make conversions from one form to another and try to reduce the overhead taken by the search engines to return such results. They try to provide the most relevant results in such queries.

SEO using categories for the search

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

The usual way of fetching the web pages for you suggest a unique way of searching the database for the keywords users have entered.  Searching by categories bring a lot of difference as it fetches the necessary the pages in the context of the query.

When a query is passed by the user, search engine assigns a special category to the query. Since the context in which the query has passed by the user is extremely difficult to figure out, search engine optimization techniques are refined to get the best possible search result.

By associating a category to the user typed query, it becomes much easier to identify the context. Search engine maintains a hierarchy of categories to associate user typed query. This preliminary hierarchy of category is pretty general in nature and this category is sub divided into many other categories that directs to the best possible exact context of the user desired search result. Say for example, preliminary category can include sports, entertainment, science etc, and hierarchy of sub categories can accommodate more specific areas like music, football, chemistry etc.

Hence the more refined technique which discussed very recently by experts greatly helps the searchers, writers or publishers to fetch more exact data and prepare categorized articles etc.

Grouping results and one boxes from Google

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Google have always been the best search engine in the world. Their SEO optimization tools are highly focused on assisting their end users. One of the most relevant innovations from Google is the one box.

When people use the same keyword for querying different information, search engines must be capable of giving them the information that they are looking for. This is what Google will be granting their customers. The search engine will group the results of the search based on the nature of the query and the actions of the user in response to the query.

The results also can be grouped based on the kind of device with which the user is connecting the internet. This can also be based on the profile of the user who is making the search. It has a great dependence on how often the query will be made for a particular kind of information.

Results will also be grouped based on the quality of results returned by a search. If a particular result is not relevant for a query, there is no point in returning the same result over and over again. Once this is made, depending on the relevancy of the information they need, the users will not have to go for a wider search. This improves the search experience of users.

Illustrated search in search engines

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Search engines are competing with each other to provide quality service to their customers. A latest concept under discussion in the search engine market is how to return images, videos and news related to a particular query for the customers. This is a best way of informing the users on the various concepts connected to a search word.

This has the greatest benefit that, the search result will have more pictures and less text. So the concepts will be illustrated more clearly to the people. Searchers can get more concepts which are connected to that particular query. Hence they will be able to make a selection easy over the others.  The search results will be narrower using this and hence users can focus on the particular concept connected to that keyword of query. The search engine experience will be more wonderful for the users using this concept.

The future search engines will return a result like this:

This is a universal search method and illustrated search will be smarter using this. Search engines are looking forward to implement this in the near future so that users will increase in number for their search engine.  Users are expected to get more benefit using the method.

Search engines expanding queries

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

When search engines grow and expand with technology, the search engine optimization techniques also grow. So any updated information from the field of SEO marketing has high relevance. It happens quite often that when you search for something, you received information that is not relevant. So people will have to refine their queries.

So it is better if the search engines can expand a query based on the popularity ranking of the query. This system will be based on the behavior of the people while they use the search engines. users’ behavior in determining actions including clicking pages to get better results have a great role in this kind of popularity ranking for query expansion. Users also use different query refinement methods to get a suitable result for their query.

Search engines can expand the query in a way that people will get interest in the new search engine result even if it is not directly related to the query words they used for searching. So when this kind of result is accepted by people, search engines can blend both of the queries in future. The acceptance for the blended result will be more from the part of the people. This will reduce the number of people leaving the search engines unsatisfied.
