Yahoo to stop online briefcase

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

The very latest news from the giant search engine Yahoo is that it is going to shut off its online storage facility very soon. All yahoo users have been asked to clear and remove the files stored in Yahoo’s online store box on or before March 10th. Well, having said that, the majority of users do not find it a great difference in this move of yahoo, since it is hard to find a few who use this facility this time around.

The main drawback of Yahoo online briefcase was that they never bothered expanding or enhancing the facilities of storage. It was the old 30MB storage and there are much better facilities available. Yahoo initiated this storage stuff around 10 years back, and they have not simply adapted to the changes happening in the online media. In fact, people do not find this news surprising.

The official statement of reason by Yahoo says that this facility has been over looked by the users and Yahoo do not find any point in continuing this. They admit that the service is incredibly low, and it gives clear implications of the fact that, they cannot afford continuing this in these trying times. The news that had to be read in conjunction with this is, Google is all set to go for its own online storage media.

Basic search tips explained

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

As a webmaster, you want to find the best sources to back link and populate. As a surfer, you obviously want to find just what you need within the shortest possible time, rather than have to open multiple pages on a new tab just trying to locate what you need. One would think what a waste of time. Of course all the information you need is online, but do you know how to look at it. Make search engines work for you and reduce the time spent looking for what you need.

When you key in keywords, instead of typing in multiple keywords that will result in too many finds, use your target search terms in quotes. As such, if you are looking for SEO news in the business niche, type in “SEO news business”, instead of SEO news business, because the results will be far too many for the latter.

If you are looking for information on light but not electric supplies, your search input should look like light -bulb. Of course, you’ll have to use average intelligence to get to the right search times but this will save you a lot of time and guarantee a larger degree of search oriented finds rather than random finds.

Virtual bookshelf from Google

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Google have always focused their attention on improving the search engine experience of people. An important plan working in their background is that of the virtual book shelf plan. The opportunities, our users are going to enjoy from this idea are many including the chance to get digital copies of books online.

Users will be given facilities to create a library of their own. Those who have a virtual book shelf will get the facility to track after listing the physical as well as digital copies of various books from their book shelf. In case, they don’t have any specific books, they can easily look for such books in Google virtual libraries and get the needed ones. They can then buy the book from online sellers.

You also get the chance to annotate the books that you have in your virtual library. This can be done using tags and reviews. The concept of book is more than that of some physical books. It has a wider concept including magazines, newspapers and other articles plus the digital books.

The books are stored with metadata and those who are looking for the information on book; they will be able to make use of this metadata. The Google Book Search is the primary source of this metadata.
