About Google adwords

It’s almost as though Google has done a full circle by not permitting beer adwords. Now this may come as a surprise to many because Google has always held its own and barred such advertisements, and all of a sudden there’s a huge change which stands to benefit many and is at the same time quite an interesting proposition.

Google’s stance on this matter is that they evaluate keywords and adwords continuously and make changes that are suitable and stand to be profitable. So now beer, wine and champagne get to see the white flag and Google says the decision to allow such advertisements stems from the fact that since such products are intended for sale and consumption by adults, they can be bought into the realm of mainstream by simply using a non – family safe status alongside.

One way of looking at the whole thing is that Google is trying to earn more through ad revenues during these difficult financial times. So in reality alcohol ads are no longer a taboo, so one is obviously left wondering what else will enter the boundaries of safety I the days to come. Whichever way, the alcohol ads are certainly welcome and make things easier for many webmasters and SEO experts.

Google is surely taking a very competitive approach in regards to adwords and checking out many permutations and combinations to see which of their results gain maximum acceptance. Google’s testing of product results in adwords has been ongoing, and previously the Google base was in the forefront.

This new feature does not alter free results but instead pushes other ads towards the right. The image implementation will not show up on all your searches right away. Google is also attempting to check banner ads in image searches. The changes can bring about pronounced differences.

Zip code ad targeting by Yahoo

Here’s another exciting offer from the yahoo search marketing blog. This new feature allows Yahoo sponsored search advertisers to target advertisements based on individual zip code requirements. Apart from Ask.com, Yahoo is now the only other major search engine that has made specific zip code targeting for their advertisers a reality.

Google adwords even though not that specific does allow users to use zip codes for their targeted adwords and the search is limited to 20 miles around the targeted area. This allows advertisers find custom targets as per the zip code provided. This geo targeted feature can be used by simply altering your existing settings.  Yahoo sponsored search advertisers need to make changes under the campaign setting tab. In the target by field drop down box, you need select the zip/postal code option. After making your zip code selection, you’ll need to supply your list of zip codes and the search will process accordingly.

Yahoo does say that such targeting may not be altogether accurate based on many factors, including the level of targeting that’s been selected. However, there are many takers for this new feature, especially those that want to target specific areas rather than an entire city, so search results will be magnified within your target group of zip codes.

Google China Blog Search

Google certainly is trying to get a stronghold in the internet market. Their attempt for new clustered results which was only just the action plan posted on the Google blog search has now seen the light of day. As the name suggests, it caters to only Chinese language blogs. Of course, this is just the start and soon you can expect more launches in this arena. It’s all new and very exciting. This takes us to another realm of reality. How wide is the internet spectrum and how far will things go? This certainly calls for celebration because now Chinese blogs will get a much needed platform and the world gets to hear what the once staunch communists have to say. One thing though: will the Chinese government scan everything before actual uploading like in the recent past.

Microsoft going for document segmentation based on vision

Visions based document segmentation is a new patent obtained by Microsoft. The web pages have so much diversity in topics including content, links, labels and ads that search engines will find it really difficult to index and get the pages for the searchers.

This patent considers breaking down the web pages into a number of different blocks having meaning. This is done on the basis of how we see the page. These sections are identified as portions of the page with varying meanings and this might be completely unrelated to one another.

The existence of the blocks will be helpful to the search engine when they look for pages and will decide on the indexing based on the content found in that page. This will help the searchers to get more information on what they were looking for.

The page as per the patent is broken into visual blocks and the differences in the page sections are found out. This is used to create the visual separations between the sections. These blocks and the separators are used to create a content structure for that page. The pages are not directly ranked, but the sections and the blocks of the pages are used for ranking so that, it is easier to find out the right information for the searchers.

Google’s patent for historical data content update

Google tries to look into the change of content in the web pages and how this affects the page rank of the corresponding pages.

This is based on the fact that websites get updated frequently. There can be addition of products or information in websites and blogs. There are changes that occur on a regular basis and those changes have high relevance in the page rank.

Google is using the patent for historical data to update on the changes happening in the websites. This has a direct impact on the click through rate as well as the link changes in the web pages. The patent also concentrates on the keywords that affect those pages. Hence the historical ranking factors of Google will be affected with the updates happening in various web pages.

There are cases when the pages that has content recently changed will be considered more acceptable than those pages that has not been updated anywhere in the recent past. In such cases, Google will have to keep track of the changes that are occurring for the queries that are more frequent. This is in fact the relevance of the historical patent for data content for any changes by Google.
