On January 31, 2009 the entire internet arena was full of confusions and amusements when surfers around the globe received error warning when they browsed the internet. This was a problem with Google and all webpages showed this critical warning when they tried to access sites through Google. This severe problem lasted from 4 to 5 hours and all the internet activities where stalled during this period of time.
The more interesting fact was Google’s advisory pages suggested the usual steps to troubleshoot the issue or it contained the reasons for problems. But it was not acceptable just because these advisory notes were meant only for infected and malicious pages. Everyone was perplexed to think the whole of internet pages, doesn’t matter whichever the site is infected and malicious ones. There was no reason to think for common man Google had some problems which are technical and this was the hot news.
In their blog, Google made it very simple to justify as a simple human error. They continued, stating that they have a program which tracks the updates regarding malicious sites and this program is not an automated one. Instead, this program is maintained by humans and that was simply a human error.

Here’s another exciting offer from the yahoo search marketing blog. This new feature allows Yahoo sponsored search advertisers to target advertisements based on individual zip code requirements. Apart from Ask.com, Yahoo is now the only other major search engine that has made specific zip code targeting for their advertisers a reality.
Google adwords even though not that specific does allow users to use zip codes for their targeted adwords and the search is limited to 20 miles around the targeted area. This allows advertisers find custom targets as per the zip code provided. This geo targeted feature can be used by simply altering your existing settings. Yahoo sponsored search advertisers need to make changes under the campaign setting tab. In the target by field drop down box, you need select the zip/postal code option. After making your zip code selection, you’ll need to supply your list of zip codes and the search will process accordingly.
Yahoo does say that such targeting may not be altogether accurate based on many factors, including the level of targeting that’s been selected. However, there are many takers for this new feature, especially those that want to target specific areas rather than an entire city, so search results will be magnified within your target group of zip codes.

Google certainly is trying to get a stronghold in the internet market. Apart from wooing regular English speaking surfers, it’s decided to introduce the perfect Chinese treat; we now have the Google China Blog Search. What seemed a potential announced is reality in less than no time. Their attempt for new clustered results which was only just the action plan posted on the Google blog search has now seen the light of day. If you go to their clustered home page, here’s what you’ll see, the Google China Blog Search.
So, you may ask what is so phenomenal about this new development. First thing first, it is first launch of the non English blogsearch interface that’s been launched. As the name suggests, it caters to only Chinese language blogs. Of course, this is just the start and soon you can expect more launches in this arena. It’s all new and very exciting. This takes us to another realm of reality. How wide is the internet spectrum and how far will things go? This certainly calls for celebration because now Chinese blogs will get a much needed platform and the world gets to hear what the once staunch communists have to say. One thing though: will the Chinese government scan everything before actual uploading like in the recent past.

Google in a recent blog from their office has declared that, they are going to anonymize the IP of the logs in their search engine servers in 9 months. This has been an update on the earlier declaration of the retention period of 18 months.
This change has been made by the company in an attempt to protect the data and privacy of the users. The search engine giant has been closely researching this and has even accepted a request to keep a link for privacy policy on their home pages.
The main concern of the Google engineers have been for how to find out a way in which they can reduce the loss of data quality in the logs and at the same time, bring down the retention period of the IPs. This data is being used by the company to improve the search results and conduct the advertisement campaigns based on the location details as well as language preferences of their users.
Even when the methods for anonymization will have to face changes, it will be successful in bringing down the retention period. So, they have been able to devise methods that preserve the data utility and anonymize the IP address as well.

France has officially banned Email! Wait a minute, this doesn’t mean that you will no longer be able to send email messages and will be forced to use Instant Messaging, SMS or a service like Twitter to communicate online. It simply means that French authorities have decided to rename “Email” as “Courriel”. The original idea was to replace the word “Email” with the french equivalent “Courrier Electronique” meaning electronic letter, but the hipper term “Courriel” made it in the end. Also, a start-up will now be referred to as “Jeune Pousse” or young plant. We’ll have to wait and see if the French start “Courriel”ing each other!
People have started noticing changes in Google Trends of late, and, finally Google announced the release of the latest version of this tool yesterday on its official blog. This version includes a new feature called ‘Relative Scaling’ which is a type of numeric metric and also incorporates the ability to export data on the trends. Relative Scaling basically will provide you with a ballpark estimate of how certain terms are ‘trending’ instead of exact data. On the new graph, you can notice a number at the top as well as one on the y-axis. These numbers don’t refer to exact figures, but rather, it’s a scale of the first term entered by you so that the average search volume is equal to 1.00 in the given time period.
The new export function comes with two options, relative scaling and fixed scaling. Fixed scaling is simply the data scaled as described above in a specific time-line. Google Trends users had previously noticed that the ability to view trends on an hourly basis had been removed from the tool.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication), has been around for a good few years now – its basically a method where you can easily syndicate your content. For example if someone finds your posts interesting and they would like to publish it on there site it would be much more simple to use an RSS feed.
RSS is a very useful tool for delivering information and news to clients and bloggers around the world, alot of companies still do not use RSS feeds which is very likely going to slow them down in the long run. It is also great for SEO efforts as there are numerous RSS feeds around these days where you can submit your feed to and everytime you publish your content vwalla – its in the front of thousands of people increasng your link bait and viral awareness. If you are still clueless as to what RSS is thn read on
It was developed by th now retired Netscape (RIP) it is a means of receiving updated content instantly, when the user subscribes to your RSS feed. The growth of RSS over recent years has been extrodinary to say the least it could infact take over email communication as a new way to deliver and read content.
Nowaday any sort of information can be sent via RSS and the end user can also choose what category or subject they would like to receive information about, one tip is not to use javascript when creating your RSS feed as this will stop the spiders in there tracks .
So for anyone that is not using RSS we recommend to as it will not only help your SEO with keyword rich content but it will also open your site up to a whole new audience that will be going crazy to read your unique content!
