Have You Been Buzzed…?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Well, it’s official. Google is getting in on the social media craze. Is there anything that Google isn’t a part of yet? Hey, I’m not complaining. I, like most people I’m sure,  use their services for just about everything, whether it’s for their analytics code or AdSense income. I was wondering though if anyone here has had a chance to check out Google Buzz yet. What do you think?

I’m a big fan of using social networking to market your site and I love the exposure that FaceBook can give you when it comes to your target audience. I don’t mind admitting that I thought it was just a flash in the pan when it first came out. Misplaced loyalty to MySpace, I know. Well I’m amongst the converted now. It’s given a big boost in traffic. Not anything spectacular, mind you, but I say that more visitors is always a good thing.

It will be interesting to see just what Google comes up with. Practically everything they’ve put out has been a hit, although I don’t like their messaging service much, but that’s just me. It makes sense that they would want their own social marketing site too. I’m thinking that the big thing will be in terms of target audiences. They already offer targeted ads through AdSense. Maybe they’ll integrate that into the service. It would be great to have one place where you can do everything.

Ads That Target Your Market Are In

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

target

Through the years, we have seen different kinds of advertisements. There’s contextual advertising that exists in Adsense and Kontera. There’s also other forms such as video as well as social media advertising. With all these, it is obvious that advertisers are now valuing their market. They want to make sure that the ads reach the right audience to maximize conversion.

Now here is where interest-based advertising comes in. We have received announcement from the Inside Adsense blog that they are implementing this new kind of advertising.

Over the next few months we’ll start offering interest-based advertising to a limited number of advertisers as part of a beta, and expand the offering later in 2009. Whether the advertiser’s goal is to drive brand awareness or increase responses to their ads, these capabilities can help expand the success of their campaigns and should increase your earnings as advertiser participation increases.

Remember those times when Google have been trying to guess what’s on your mind? Now they seemed to have found one of the solutions. Now as you surf websites and click on certain ads, Google will now record your interest with a cookie. With this, you will see ads based on your interest on other websites.

I think this is good news for both parties. The owner of the website will have higher conversions because he is serving the interest of his surfer while the surfer gets the ads that feeds his interest. You get the idea. It’s not about contextual advertising anymore. It’s about serving the interest of the user.

Of course, it may seem all positive at first. But the problem I see here is that people have varied, changing interests. Some people may be interested on one thing at a certain time then become uninterested in it the next. I wonder how Google is going to address this problem.

But publishers do not need to worry. They have the choice to implement interest based advertising or not. It is entirely up to their discretion. Also, like adsense, they can filter out certain websites with a competitive filter. Just some features Google added that should ease the publishers’ minds.

But still, interest-based advertising is an interesting change. Some may be afraid of it while others may try it. Since it’s new, we still don’t know its conversion possibilities. I guess we should stand by those publishers who will try this new kind of advertising.

But before you jump and start implementing these ads, be sure to change some parts of your Privacy Policy. Google have added some stuff that they would like you to include. Just go here.

Adsense Allows Custom Fonts

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

ad
We have always been complaining on how Adsense doesn’t allow us to customize our advertisement blocks. We may have the freedom to choose the backgrounds and colors but we cannot choose the fonts. But today, web developers have rejoiced as Google made an announcement in its Inside Adsense Blog. The post went like this:

You’ve been asking for more control over the appearance of the ads on your sites, so we’re happy to let you know that you can now change the font face of the text in ad units on pages in Latin-character languages. You can choose between Arial, Times, and Verdana font faces. Please note that while font options will appear in every account, they’ll currently only be applied to ad units on pages primarily in Latin-based characters.

This is good news. This means that developers don’t have to look for other methods just to match their Adsense ads to their websites. They can now conveniently alter the fonts of their advertisement units on their Google Adsense accounts.

Customizing the fonts of your Adsense units is easy. One has to simply visit “Ad Display Preferences” in his Account Settings page. One can choose from three font family choices which are Arial, Times New Roman and Verdana. Changes in the Ad Display Preferences will affect all your ads that the developer have created. This pertains to all units in the Manage Ads Section.

However, if you want some fonts for only some of your ad units, you can select the font upon the creation of your ads. When you create an ad, you will see a font section where you can either choose the site-wide font family or you can specify the font you like. This gives the developer more room to customize their ad units to fit his website.

However, on the negative note, the new rule has its limitations. It can only be implemented on ad units inside websites with Latin-based characters. It cannot be implemented on other types. Also, the choices are also limited to three fonts: Arial, Times New Roman and Verdana. But we can’t blame them though. These three fonts are the most compatible fonts with internet content.

This new development can help SEOs in blending their ads with their websites. Blending ones ads can increase CTR (click-through ratings) because the visitors cannot tell the ad from the content. With this, developers can also expect a dramatic increase on their Adsense income.

Google overcoming global financial crisis

Friday, November 7th, 2008

The Global financial crisis is supposed to affect Google on a large scale. When online advertising is considered, it is expected that the economic condition prevailing in the world will be in favour of Microsoft while Google will have to struggle hard.

When Google acts as a intermediary connecting advertisers and websites, this world economic crisis is expected to hurt this search engine giant badly.

As per the news from their director of Adsense, it is known that the economic turmoil existing in the world has created uncertainty for Adsense publishers and their career. Google is continuing to invest in the innovations that will favour publisher and advertiser, during this difficult situation. They are focussing on the development of product offerings. This will boost the performance of publishers as well. Ads will be made more effective through the advancements made through experiments and search in the field of Adsense.

They will try to introduce the double click technology which will improve the condition of Adsense publishers. Continued launch of products and features will help in the growth of the Adsense industry as well. Adwords advertisers will also be benefited, thereby helping them to easily target the content network. New display ad builder is also expected to improve the performance of advertisers.

Google analytics

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

After their attempt to a little touch up, Google analytics offers an important upgrade. They are offering a better approach to:
• AdSense integration
• Motion Charts
• advanced segmentation
• API
• custom reports
• updated user interface

Though being hailed as an upgrade, the great news is it’s free. These tools can be used by all Google analytics users. The idea behind this move is to make the expensive and difficult to use tools gain larger acceptance. In this new approach, they are free and easy to use. This adsense integration lets you link your adsense and analytics account after which you can view all adsense data. Now you can evaluate and watch your account closely and determine changes in:

• total revenue
• impressions
• clicks
• click-through ratio
• revenue per day,
• revenue per hour
• revenue per page
• per pages profitability
• revenue per referral
• data on sites that bring in profitable traffic

If you’re wondering how to get around to using these tools which may seem a little complicated, there’s good news. Google has made available videos to aid users in their quest to master the use of their integration tools. Things will take a while to be used by all but the beginning is here.
