Cuil was released recently and the very recent updates on the web analysis suggest CUIL has to travel a long way to even compete with Google. Many SEO experts believe that Google has found a competitor in CUIL. It is true that CUIL has made the mark impressively as it was successful in achieving topmost page rank soon after the release. But, the fact remains the same that Google have lots and lots of websites in their data base server, where as CUIL have to count on it. Anyways, the events have contributed well to a hot debate topic, and it was a prominent SEO discussion of the past week.

The association forum for CUIL has suggested very recently that they are on the look out for establishing and maintaining the services those Google possess already. But roots of CUIL would not be that easy as the Google services have cemented its root very deep in to the hearts of public with their incredible services free of cost. Ad words, Page Creator, Orkut communication centre have become incredibly popular among the public. CUIL press releases highly insisted on broadening their horizon to conquer the web world and, indeed, they have miles to go.

When the earlier search engines used lists to extract information needed for providing results to queries, Google is trying to extract the information from tables.

Google is trying to take the information from tables where meaningful data is contained. They will take the data from the tables and will create a separate database for them and will try to relate the data in different tables to each other. They will later allow people to search through these data.

All this is possible because of the peculiar structure of the tables. The tables have columns and there are labels for these columns. This will help Google to extract the information with the corresponding label and will store it in a database. This data stored in the database can be used to help searchers in the later.

The pages in websites can have structured as well as unstructured data. The unstructured information will not be in the form of tables with labels and hence wont have values for the labels. On the other hand, the structured data will be more organized.

Google is researching on how to extract the data from the HTML tables and later on how to use this information for searching using keywords.

Customers are looking forward for ways in which their website can attract visitors through the use of communities. Annotating pictures, songs and other videos are an excellent method of how to attract customers to your website. When you provide the option of leaving comments and suggestions in a website, people will be attracted to the community for which your website has been built.

Google is also providing a facility for people to give comments on what they feel about a site. This is considered to be a way in which people can be attracted to something interesting. Suggestions on annotations can be based on various aspects like the location of the individual, the record with the previous details on how they have provided annotations in the past, and the category or community to which they belong and provide annotations.

There are various intensions behind providing this kind of annotation facility to customers. People will get a facility to annotate photos. They can also provide suggestions depending on the context of the objects and also the community to which the user belongs to. They can also rank the suggestions based on various factors. This ranking will help those who want to use the suggestions.

One of the greatest challenges faced by the search engines is to provide the functionality of giving search options to people in all languages. Google has found a solution for this and they have taken an attempt to learn as many languages as possible and are giving a translation service for those languages. They are providing a facility that allows searching for words and phrases in various languages as well.

Another greatest advantage provided by Google is by giving you an option to give a google translate gadget in your website. This will give the audience visiting your pages to translate them into languages convenient for them. Google has extended this service to make it available on iPhones as well.

They have provided an excellent translation service. Along with this, they give a Google translation service which is mainly intended to be for trusted users. A human translation service is also being used which is not depending on the automated methods for translation. The spam and other misspelled words are filtered out of the feedback provided to the Google translation service. This way, the translation service will be improved by the users who are going to use the Google translation service.

When you use a word to query for some results, it will be difficult for the search engine to determine the intention behind making the query. If the word is so small or short to query, the work of the search engine will be even harder. To avoid this, they will use categories. The category label will be attached to the query word and this will make the understanding of the user’s intension easier for the search engine.

The search engines will use the results with the same phrase in their pages. Once these results are obtained, they will return those to the users and will rank them. The ranked results will be displayed to the users. Another option in which the search engines will handle the query is by placing this into a category and will look into all hierarchical categories to get relationships between the related terms.

The higher level of hierarchy will be easier since this will be general and followed by the hierarchy at lower levels. This lower level will have categories that are more specific to the terms used in searching. In this way, when the term is placed into categories, the search engines will be able to determine what all items are connected to the term which you have used for querying which will make the results more relevant.

It is generally heard that when the number of pages hold by the search engines increases, the chances that they cant provide the best results for the customers are high. It means that, as the log with the search engines increases, the best pages obtained in exchange of the queries will be less in number.

The uncertainty involved in the chances of losing the amount of information content missed by a person looking for results are known by the term entropy. The entropy involved in the search performed by search engines is not that high as we imagine. The search engines can well predict the information and the pages which are more relevant to the person who is making the search.

Since most of the search engines gain more information through the personalization, the entropy is decreased even further. This will make the work of search engines even easier while making a query for the word entered by the user. If there is not much information about the interests of the person making search, they will take personal data like the membership of the individual to understand the kind of information he will be looking for. Location information through IP address is also used as a way to reduce the entropy.

You might have used singular and plural versions of the same word for querying in most popular search engines like Yahoo and Google. You might have wondered on whether these are returning the singular results of the plural ones when you give a word for query or whether they are returning back with same options.

Returning results with singular and plural ones can be a little confusing as whether you will get the best results and the results you are looking for. The search engines should well explore both the categories and should bring a mix of the singular and plural results.

The most popular search engines are looking for both singular and plural versions of a word while you query for it. The results will be different when you give the word in a quotation mark. Hence the exact results and the find all results will be quite different. The search engines like Yahoo had devised methods which will handle both singular and plural words and will try to make conversions from one form to another and try to reduce the overhead taken by the search engines to return such results. They try to provide the most relevant results in such queries.

When you query for something in Google, there are some words that you might use which are frequently appearing in a number of irrelevant search results. When you check for the results, you find that Google have avoided showing you such irrelevant results. For example when you look for “a London hotel”, “a” will be appearing in a lot of results, but Google is not taking those results into consideration. The result is that you will get the most required results for “London hotels”.

In the above example, the word “a” is considered to be a stop word by Google which is supposed to be ignored while performing queries. There are various other stop words like is, the etc. which need not be considered unless required as in special cases for querying for movies “The Matrix”.

The search engine maintains a list of such stop words and will be looking for the presence of such words in your query. Based on this, they will determine the relevance of whether to use or avoid the stop words while querying for relevant results. The end result is that, you will get the most appropriate result using the search engine with proper care given for stop words.
