SMO and SEM – the favorite options of SEO engineers.

Search Engine Optimization, simply put, is about hitting the bull’s eye, which means to be the top ranker in the list generated by search engine results and achieve top precedence on the recognition lists among the web visitors. SEO or search engine optimization is the utilization of specific keywords configured on the site in a way that they will be very easily found, read as well as indexed by search engines in a manner that they will impel traffic to your website. The keywords used in your META tag ought to be used properly in the text on the website. Individual web pages should target keywords and phrases so as to be indexed and ranked appropriately.

SEM, or search engine marketing, comprises researching, submitting and marketing the website to attain highest exposure and traffic. It usually includes banner ads, affiliate - programs, link building campaigns and article marketing. Well-planned and well-placed banner ads will facilitate draw attention to the intended site. Affiliate programs can be very advantageous for all the parties involved. Link building is the act of placing links to the site in tactical places on blogs, forums as well as other related websites.

Search engine submission, directory submission, article writing, link building, Keyword selection, press release, Title and Meta Tags are key search engine optimization techniques to be a top ranker in search engines as well as to create more traffic. All the major SEO companies all over the world are applying these strategies to improve websites ranking and bring more traffic.

SEO techniques play a fundamental role in the success of a web site. Latest SEO is a combination of SEO techniques and SMO techniques. SMO or Social Media Optimization is a set of techniques used for creating traffic during social and community websites. Utilizing social networking sites such as YouTube, MySpace and others could give the frame you require. SMO is potentially the simplest type of marketing, since all that is needed of you, is to join a great network of friends’ list and post comments on their blogs now and then. The more active you are in the social networks; there will be more links to your site. The more links you create, the better the potential for visitors to view the website and take benefit of your client’s products and services.

Search Engine Marketing Techniques for Beginners

In an Internet savvy world, acronyms have taken the place of the written word in many cases. As a webmaster you understand the language of acronyms that many may not. But do you fully understand SEO, SEM and SMO and their effects on your Web site’s traffic? A successful webmaster knows and understands the importance of META tags in the header section of their Web site’s html. This area is where browsers and search engines look for the key words that are used to index and rank your Web site on search engines. Properly used META tags and keywords can mean the difference between effectively or poorly indexed Web sites.

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the utilization of precise keywords configured on your Web site in such a way that they will be easily found, read and indexed by search engines in a manner that will drive traffic to your Web site. The key words used in your META tag should be used appropriately in the text on your Web site. If you are unfamiliar with indexing and ranking, you may consider hiring a professional to write content for you. Individual pages of your Web site must target key words and phrases in order to be indexed and ranked properly.

SEM, or search engine marketing, includes researching, submitting and marketing the Web site to achieve maximum exposure and traffic. SEM usually includes banner ads, link building campaigns, affiliate programs and article marketing. Well-planned and well-placed banner ads will help draw attention to your Web site. Affiliate programs also can be very beneficial for all parties involved. Link building is the act of placing links to your Web site in strategic places on forums, blogs and other related Web sites.

SMO, or social media optimization, is a set of methods used for generating traffic through social and community Web sites. The utilization of social networking sites such as MySpace, YouTube, Yuwie and others could give you the edge you need. With hundreds of thousands of visitors per day to some social networking sites, your Web site could get a very large boost in traffic if properly optimized.

If your site is not performing as well as you had expected, maybe you need to work on your SEO, SEM or SMO. You may do the work yourself or hire professionals to do it for you.

SEO might be better achieved by someone who is familiar with HTML, PHP and writing content for Web sites. SEM could be the trickier. How many keywords should you have on your Web site? What would be considered SPAM? If you copy someone else’s work could you get in trouble for plagiarism or be penalized by search engines? Can you write appropriate content to draw traffic to your site? If you aren’t 100 percent sure you can provide what your Web site needs, it is highly recommended that you hire someone. Many small writing businesses and freelance professionals have emerged over the last few years. Hiring someone to write for you could be the best move you could make. Some writers and businesses will include search engine or article submission with their price. Shop around until you find the best deal to suit your needs.

SMO is the newest of optimization opportunities, but is quite possibly the best for burst traffic. As social networks take off, potential for free advertising soars along with it. Social networks have become a virtual necessity for webmasters around the Web. SMO is potentially the easiest form of marketing, simply because all that is required of you is to join a wide variety of friends’ lists and comment on friends’ blogs from time to time. The more active you are in the social networks, the more links there will be to your Web site. The more links you establish, the greater the potential for visitors to view your site and take advantage of your product or service.

Image Search Optimization (ISO) an Effective Approach

Image Search OptimizationFor a very long time webmasters have been neglecting ISO, I feel the way the search world is forming this is going to be a major part to play along with SEO and SMO.

Image search has grown leaps and bounds over the past few years and maybe in the near future could rival the genuine search. For example say that you go to google and click on images lets say we are looking for frogs well lets type that in http://images.google.co.uk/images?gbv=2&hl=en&q=frogs

I guarantee northwestfrogfest will be getting a heck of alot of traffic for that term, bringing in not only targetted but also visual visitors. Alot is to be said about ISO and how you can get your images ranked highly but a few points to remember are

Use unique pictures just as you have been using unique content for your site
Think of an image keyword you would like to rank for and rename the file name
Rename your alt tags to the targetted keywords you would like to appear for this is a very important factor
Make sure the pictures are of a good quality
You can also see benefits by putting effective text around or below the image explaining to the spiders and the users what the image actually represents
Get people linking to your image, yes thats correct you want to rank your site high you need to get quality inbound links - you want to rank an image high the more people linking to your image the better think about it same search same algo. For example one image I have on this blog is from http://www.weblogcartoons.com/cartoons/google.gif now they will get credit for this image because im naturally linking back to it.

All in all ISO is becoming a must and if your are not effectivley optimizing your images your missing out on traffic and conversions.

About Me Page

Ok guys since launching the blog I havent really had time to tell everyone about myself so now I have built up enough readers and a following base I would like to let you know abit.

Well my name is Musa Aykac and I am 22 years of age at the time of writing this.  - I have a partner and a s n and I live in the South East of the UK.

I have been into the Internet from aslong as I can remember, the moment I realised I loved Internet Marketing was when I was about 14, although it sounds abit pathetic now do you remember the old MSN chat? where you used to create your own rooms I was always obsessed with driving traffic to any of them that I opened and remember always being one of the busiest. Well since then although I dont use chat rooms etc any more I still have a passion for driving traffic but now to sites, via Google and all other major search engines, that is initially how my Internet Marketing career started. I feel if you are passionate about something you should always picture where you want to be in a few years and try your best to achieve that no matter what obstacles are in your way.

Now about me abit now, I am a certified SEO professional and currently work for one of the UKs top SEO companies “Freshegg” as an SEO Engineer. I launched this blog to help up and coming SEO professionals to learn abit more as I feel the internet should be a place to nurture and welcome any new online marketers, one tip I give to anyone new is try anything once so you learn by your mistakes, heck thats what I did marketing is all about trial and error and finding new things that can work for you - so for example if you try putting hundreds of doorway pages to your site you will get banned but its a learning process and you will know not to do it again.

Well Seotops has grown leaps and bounds although we havent been around too long I feel trust has been built with our current readers as it should be. Currently I myself am a regular poster aswell as Mary who is a top moderator on the digitalpoint forums and Opheli who is a top participator.

Well thats about it - If you would like to contact me at any time you can just email me at admin and this domain.

Stop leaving out the valuable breadcrumb trail

I am seeing more and more sites that are coming online everyday leaving out the all so valuable breadcrumb trails. This is a must when you are performing SEO and leaving this out could effect your rankings quite seriously.

Basically a breadcrumb is a navigational link abit like a site map but should be implemented as a trail to where that page is located in a site - for example if I went onto a site to buy bicycles and I went to page 4 I would expect to see a breadcrumb trail as follows - Bicycles Home > Bicyle Types > 3 wheel Bikes> Yamaha.

As you notice it all links back to the homepage thus giving the homepage the authority status so I recommend chucking in a targetted main keyword there.

Breadcrumbs are a very important factor to all SEO efforts these days and should not be left out. The reason I am blogging about this is because I see so many so called SEO Gurus not implementing this nor using the benefit of anchor texts correctly on there site. For example using “Read More”, why not ellaborate on this? why not show the users and the search engines what you want them to read more about targetting your main keywords “Read more information on bicycles and motorbikes”, quick and prompt your telling them what information there will be if they click that link.

Please all fellow SEOs dont forget onpage optimization is still vital in obtaining good quality rankings

Google Works With Online Privacy Officials

Google stated to the LA Times reporter that they were more than willing to work with online privacy officials regarding the online privacy of online users.  Privacy protection officials claim Google is holding user information and cookies for up to 2 years.  Google was warned in May of 2007 that they may be in violation of user privacy rules making Google be one of the first engines to cut down the time they store cookies to 18 months and later to 13 months as time passes.  (Imagine Google being the one being warned!)

The new requirements are recommending that Google and other search engines should only store cookies for up to 6 months.

This could play a big factor in Google’s current ways of providing users with targeted ads.

Google was reported last Friday to say they were looking forward to helping the online privacy officials to explore ways to improve privacy online for all internet users.

As an Internet user myself, I have to wonder what way Google will use to get around this so they can continue to target users with geographically correct advertisements, as I know this is a big business for Google and it’s advertisers currently.  Will it be an opt in to Google Ads? Or will they just simply have to reset the cookies once every 6 months in order to comply with the privacy issues under the gun?

Beyonce and Jay Z Married!

Well it’s really great, the latest news Beyonce and Jay Z Married for like the 100th time according to the news media and you start thinking what in the world does this have to do with SEO! Nothing and everything all at the same time.. This morning I was checking out google trends and there was a list of what people seem to be searching for- isn’t it great - Beyonce and Jay Z married was number 10 on the list- I probably could have chosen something a little closer to number 1 but felt the Beyonce and Jay Z married story probably has longer shelf life plus I have no clue who Warren Jeffs and Megan Henderson are but I’ll include them in my post as well so this blog will show up for those terms anyway. Here is the list of top 12 searched terms.

1. artemida
2. byu tv
3. lds general conferen…
4. legolas
5. alex kelly
6. comcast outage
7. comcast network stat…
8. lds.org
9. pelican rapids high …
10. beyonce and jay z ma…
11. internet outage
12. san diego crew class…
Now you may be wondering why I did that- well simple if there are people searching for these terms and I have a blog post about it- I might get some of this great traffic coming towards this blog, People who may have never known about SEOTOPS.com are will not come via these great keywords and google trends. Which brings a great question to mind- Are you writing blog posts that you want to read? Or are you writing blog posts about what people want to read? Are you missing out on traffic because you are not capitalizing on putting popular search terms in your blog posts? With a little daily research before you post- You can find what people are really looking for and start changing keywords in your posts so you can start ranking higher for those words and pull more traffic to your blog.

Google to Sell Performics and Axe doubleclick staff

Well it has been just over a month since Google aquired company Doubleclick. They are said to be axing upto 20% of Doubleclicks staff. Today, we are laying off some DoubleClick employees in the U.S. and placing others in transitional roles,” Google said in a statement.

Google has also decided to also part ways with Performics the SEO company that was also part of the Doubleclick Aquisition. This actually comes as no suprise as the saying was “What would Google do with an SEO company?”.

There has also been a shakeup as to when google purchased Performics it created alot of conflict as to what google were going to do and damage its relationship with alot of SEO companies. A key concern in the SEO area was that Performics was to obtain special treatment to information about Google’s search-engine algos, putting all other SEO firms at a distinct disadvantage. There was also further concern that Google would push its in-house Performics Search engie marketing services at very reduced rates. There are currently no reports of a buyer for Performics but alot of interest has been shown.

We will see how the sale goes in the near future

Update on Yahoo buying Google

Hi guys just to clarify so there is no confusion as we had alot of queries about yesterdays post, (plus we dont want to upset our friends at google) - It was an April fools joke.

To be honest I dont think anyone could afford to buy Google at the moment they are worth much more than 200 Billion in my opinion.

Final thoughts are google to live a long and healthy online life!

Google has agreed to sell to Yahoo for 200Billion!

google
If you haven’t heard the news yet you are well behind the pack! Google known for it’s catch phrase JUST GOOGLE IT has agreed to sell the company to yahoo for a whopping 200 Billion! That’s right folks 200 Billion Dollars!

It might come as a shock to a lot of people but the reality is yahoo already owned a stake in Google as they had given Google startup money. Google is now at the point where it has a huge market cap and has made owners Sergey Brin and Larry Page billionaires.

What will become of Google now that yahoo will take over ?

Well obviously Google will continue to run as is although a major restructuring is said to take place as yahoo plans to fire over 70% of the current staff who have not been able to control the spam that constantly fills the search engines and bring in full time black hat hackers as a major part of their workforce.

What will happen to the geniuses Sergey and Larry ?

Although no public statement has been released it is said that they plan to run a full time non profit company designed to help increase education in 3 world countries and improve the lives of millions around the world.

Seotops.com view on the whole matter- Well actually beautyinmd’s view on the whole matter is that yahoo has been around a lot longer than Google and is aware of the current market changes and past market changes needed to survive as a major company and Google was getting a little too drunk with power anyway so my only question today is- CAN I HAVE 10 MILLION PLEASE! - Because if yahoo has 200 billion to spend, maybe they can give me 10 million.

Stay tuned for more developments in this story as this could be a huge shift to the Internet community.
